Case Study

Retrospective approval for ‘doggy daycare’

This application sought to regularise the use of disused buildings close to other commercial buildings (former agricultural buildings the change of use of which we had previously regularised through an application for a certificate of lawfulness).

We were able to demonstrate that :

  • The location is accessible from a nearby trunk road whilst also being sufficiently rural for dog day care.
  • The re-use of two buildings previously used one for substandard living accommodation and the other to store junk has improved the overall appearance of site.
  • The development represents the re-use of existing buildings in Green Belt and there is no materially greater impact on the openness of the Green Belt following the conversion.

Day care as opposed to overnight boarding of dogs does not require the submission of acoustic reports.
