This application concerned two shepherds’ huts which are to be placed on pastureland and used as holiday lets. The site forms part of the landholding associated with the applicants’ Grade II listed house; it is also located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

The shepherds’ huts are traditional rural structures, and we were careful to ensure that their impact on the surrounding landscape was kept to a minimum through the use of appropriate finishes and details. The lack of external lighting was also an important factor. We worked with local landscape architect Nick Harper to demonstrate that the proposal would not have any harmful character impact on the AONB.

A thorough case demonstrating the benefits to local tourism was also presented as part of the application.

Thanks to Olson Design Group and Harper Landscape Architecture.
