Ministers have launched a consultation on plans to introduce a new use class for short-term holiday lets governing how this type of holiday accommodation can be used before planning permission is required, alongside proposals for associated permitted development rights.

Announcing the consultation, Housing Secretary Michael Gove recognised that tourism brought economic benefits to local areas but added: “I’m determined that we ensure that more people have access to local homes at affordable prices, and that we prioritise families desperate to rent or buy a home of their own close to where they work.”
