The Rural Planning Practice has obtained planning permission to extend an existing farm cottage by 67% in floor area to accommodate the owner’s daughter and her son to ensure the long-term future of the farm. The cottage is the subject of an agricultural occupancy condition and falls within the Kent Downs National Landscape and Area of Special Landscape Character.

The two-storey extension provides for a large, open plan kitchen at ground floor with bi-fold doors looking out onto the garden, together with internal reconfigurations to form a utility room to serve the day-to-day running of the farm. At first floor level, the extension provides for a large master bedroom with ensuite bathroom and dressing room with glazed recessed balcony looking out over the farm.

The application was supported by detailed plans prepared by Olson Design Group, a detailed justification of the need for the extension together with an assessment of the impact of the extension on the special landscape.
